Recording

Sandi and Philip after dinner.

It was in February 2008 that Liam Grant and I went scouting for somewhere to record some tracks.  We were so lucky to find two beautiful Lake Houses in Co. Cavan.  When we arrived Liam walked around the houses clapping his hands to hear the acoustics ( Breda the house owner must of thought he was nuts !!! ), it was a cold dark evening so even we really didn’t appreciate  at the time what a gem we had found until we went down to start recording.

There were two houses one next to the other, House one was used as a base for musician’s to hang out and eat.  The other was set up as a recording studio.   A very dear friend of mine Sandi Lake who had a very successful Rock N Roll catering business in the U.K. offered as a favour to come and cook for the musicians and take a little pressure off me, an offer I just couldn’t refuse.  And that is pretty much how it all began.

Musicians would arrive down usually the night before recording, Sandi would cook up a storm, most famously her Shepherds Pie !! Salad garlic bread and plenty of red wine. We would record very late into the night, as time was always limited when we got there.  My favourite time was always at the end of the day when we would have a glass of red wine and listen back to what we had done that day. Looking out over the lake, with my friends a glass of red wine and surrounded by music, I am not sure there could be much more bliss in the world than that. I am, and always will be very grateful to have been a part of it.

Where it all started!!
